Inspiration for next painting and curtains

Here are some images from my sketchbook that I'm looking at to use as inspiration for my next painting. None of them are feeling quite right. Plus, I'm distracted by the fact that I still have not found the perfect curtains for my living room. I can't seem to focus on my painting due to constantly surfing the internet for curtains. More on the that later.

Blank Canvas

Eli and I spent the morning doing research for my next painting. My process goes something like this: get magazines and catalogs, read/flip through them, tear out pages that catch my eye, glue those images into a sketchbook, look at the sketchbook over and over again until I see something that I want to paint.

As Eli cries in his bed after 20 minutes of an afternoon nap (if you would even call that a nap), I have not selected an image(s) to paint. However, I have selected the canvas as you can see. It's funny that I start with the blank canvas and go from there- not the image. I'm thinking I'll paint something calming and relaxing. A simple landscape/tablescape is what I have in mind.

This is what I (we) have been working on

I'm back

It has been over a year since my last post. Why you might ask has it taken me so long?

Well, I moved out of my studio just before my last post, and I was newly pregnant with my second child. Then, Ed and I decided it was time to put our house on the market and look for something with a little more square footage. And, oh yeah, my little brother moved in with us and started college.

We sold our house in January 2009, moved into our new home (where I have my studio in the attic!) in April 2009. Our son was born in July 2009.

Now, Eli is 6 months old. Sadie is 2.5 years old. I am sleeping...more. I am painting...a lot more than I have in the past year. As I write this I realize how much I have missed posting my progress/process as an artist.

The last 14 months have been dedicated to being a mother and wife. Now, I feel the scale tipping more to artist. At least now that both children are asleep and my husband is out-of-town as I write.

All for now. Lots more to come.
